Responsibilities of District Councilors
Responsibilities of District Councilors

As stated in the New York State Chapter Bylaws, the administration, property and activities of the Chapter shall be managed by its Council. Councilors serve two year terms and may be re-elected to a second consecutive term. Councilors must attend a minimum of fifty percent of the Chapter Council meetings which occur during his/her term of office. Chapter Council meetings are biannual, at the annual Chapter Scientific Session in New York City in the Fall and at the national ACC Scientific Session in the Spring.

Councilor responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Representing the Chapter at the local level and assisting members in their respective districts
  • Developing Chapter policy and direction
  • Monitoring the needs of cardiologists within his /her district and communicating these needs to the Chapter President and the Council
  • Assisting the President in membership development including contacting ACC members who have not paid Chapter dues and recruitment of qualified new members
  • Serving on Chapter committees
  • Helping to locate interested volunteers for Chapter Committees (Legislative Affairs, Third Party Reimbursement, Private Sector, Conference Planning and Publication) when vacancies occur
  • Promoting Chapter accomplishments and activities to colleagues
  • Assisting the President in activating a network pyramid when an urgent response is required
